“Form of Freedom” is an immersive art installation – a 3D collage of objects suspended from transparent cords hanging in the air, attached to a metal frame. The items, including herbariums, maps, a bicycle lock, were collected during my numerous travels across 17 European countries.
I’m from the first Bulgarian generation that could travel freely for all their life – for the generations before freedom of movement was restricted during the communist regime. Through this installation I want to create reflection around the topic of freedom, especially freedom of choice, movement, and expression, and to ask the questions “Who gives us these freedoms? Can they be taken away from us? How do we protect them?”
Main goal of “Form of Freedom” is to involve the audience, to make them part of the creation – this is done in two ways: sensitivity – the audience can walk among the objects, see them from different perspectives, touch and smell them; direct participation – people that came to the opening of the art installation were invited to bring their own objects so the art becomes a collective creation and holder of memories.”
