Not much is known of the men behind this intriguing work of art. Leonard Vaitys is an architect by profession who has been involved in numerous projects in Lithuania. Leonas Pivoriūnas trained as an artist in his hometown and is registered as a member of the Lithuanian Artists’ Association. Other than various distinctions to their names, there is not much else to elaborate on, which is unfortunate considering the unique proposal that is Eurovista. This mural installation could perhaps best be described as a reliquary, one that safeguards national traces of the past. Yet, these traces – in the form of obsolete currencies – have been shredded and meshed, an attack on the notes and coins’ physical integrity that goes against the apparent protective structure. But such destruction might have been perceived as necessary to build towards the future, towards a new currency in which all these former ones continue to exist. The layers in this work are complex, antithetical in its theme; it also refers to vanities or still lifes of the past – functioning like the absurd representation of lifeless and useless elements.
