The Bog after Winter

The Bog after Winter © EP 2021

Camille Souter (born Betty Pamela Holmes) trained as a nurse before embarking on an artistic career. Her body of work consists of intimate almost imagined snapshots of landscape that lie somewhere between abstraction and figuration. Not unlike other British contributors to this Collection, Souter’s work retains a Romantic quality to her approach to the everyday. The scale of much of her work is rather small, in accordance with the apparent privacy of what is being shown. Her colour palette is similarly contained, with a very limited number of colours, shades and tones being explored from painting to painting. The bog after Winter respects the core parameters of Souter’s art: the ochre palette is homogeneous to the point of veiling any figurative clues.
