Carlo PIZZICHINI

(1962)

Carlo Pizzichini was born in Monticiano, Siena, in 1962. He was introduced to art by his father, who taught him from a young age. His artistic trajectory was laid out for him, though his father would not live long enough to see it come to fruition. He attended the secondary school of the Siena Institute of Art and graduated with full marks from the Siena State Institute of Art in 1981, before going on to distinguish himself at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence (1985) under the tutelage of Professor Roberto Giovannelli. Later in life, he taught pictorial techniques of contemporary arts at the Academies of Fine Arts in Brera, Bologna and Carrara. In 2010 he was made professor of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sassari, before returning to the academy in Florence, where he teaches to this day.

Immediately after graduating, Pizzichini brought his talent to the professional sphere through public commissions from major banks, religious institutions, architects and private clients. He would deepen his artistic research and themes through extensive travel abroad, with his work taking him to Italy, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, the USA, China, India, Russia, Spain, Germany and the Middle East. Rather than sticking to the trends of his generation, he favours experimentations in a wide array of materials such as ceramics, terracotta, bronze, stone and glass.

Highlights from his innumerable exhibitions and commissions include: Galerie Meier, Arth am See (2015); L’asinello, Piazza Mazzini, Roccatederighi (2015); Le brocche del Barbarossa, San Quirico d’Orcia (2015); Carlo Pizzichini am Goldbachcenter, Küsnacht, Zurich (2015); Meteore, Giardino di Villa Bottini, Lucca (2015); Pinakes, Galleria SMS Messaggi d’Arte, Celle Ligure (2015); Meteore ed altre invenzioni, Villa Casati Stampa, Muggiò (2015); Le api dei miei giorni, installation at the Basilica of San Domenico, Siena (2015); Meteore, installations at Ponte di Malizia, Siena (2015); Notturni, Palazzo Ducale, Genoa (2014); artistic direction for the fourth edition of the Arte dei Vasai Prize, Siena (2014); organisation of the exhibitions Terry Davies, La forma Helvetica, Ma Chao and Marco Antonio Tanganelli at the Casanova Showroom, Open Zona Toselli, Siena (2014); Carlo Pizzichini, Bilder und Keramik, Galerie Pesko, Lenzerheide, Switzerland (2014); La Parola e l’Eucarestia, two stained glass windows for the Basilica of San Domenico, Siena (2013); Tular, Volterra Art Gallery (2013); Il giardino della conoscenza at Horti Leonini and L’incanto della terra at Palazzo Chigi, San Quirico d’Orcia (2013); Meteore, Bagno Vignoni (2013); Carlo Pizzichini: One Man Show, Artexpo Arezzo and Galerie 22a Innsbruck (2012).
