Petr PÍSAŘÍK

(1968)

Petr Písařík was born in Třeboň, in 1968. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, where he studied in the studios of Stanislav Kolíbal, Milan Knížák and Aleš Veselý, the artist is one of the founders of the ‘Monday’ art group (1987-1994).
His work embodies the foundation of postmodernism’s appetite for methodological and formal variability. This is best exemplified by his eclectic works using unique techniques and seemingly incompatible materials and forms that combine non-traditional painting, relief, glass, found objects, sculpture and photography, which all overlap into unique monumental installations. These spatial environments put particular emphasis on the role of sensory perception, in which the work of art remains a manifestation of beauty.
Thanks to his open access to various biomorphic and geometrical sources, often from the field of modern art, and his extraordinary ability to translate any object that he finds in his surroundings into art, thereby saving it from being thrown away, his work is constantly changing.

Recent exhibitions include: Tondeo materiam, GASK, Kutná Hora (2021); Vektor přílivu, Vita Bene/Program Health Plus, Prague (2021); Stardust, Galerie Villa Pellé, Prague (2020); Jestli chceš být originální, stačí nelhat, Černá Labuť, Prague (2020); …byl jsem tady PISI, Galerie Magna, Ostrava (2019); Místo činu, Galerie Pitevna, Brno (2019); Space maker, Galerie Rudolfinum, Prague (2018); Petr Písařík, Galerie Prostor 228, Liberec (2017); Discobolos, Miroslav Kubík Gallery, Litomysl (2015); Václav Špála Gallery, Prague (2014); Palette Colors, Dara Rolins Gallery, Prague (2013); Is it so or so?, Studio 207, Prague (2012); Real, NoD, Prague (2011); Plus minus jedna (+ Igor Müller), Galerie Dolmen, Prague (2011); Portfolio 2011, Galerie 5. patro, Prague (2011); K2, Galerie Ad Asta, Kuřim (2010).
