Michal Warren was born in Dublin, in 1950. He studied at Bath Academy of Art at Trinity College Dublin (1970-1971) and the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan (1971-1975).
Warren’s sculpture, which tends to be consistently large-scale, is distinguishable and recognisable by its anthropologic quality. Inspired by the object’s relation to its context, he has created many site-specific sculptures around the world: in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, at the Olympic Sculpture Park, Seoul, South Korea and at the Utsukushi-ga-hara Open Air Museum in Japan. Totemic, archaeologic and seemingly functional from an urbanistic point of view, Warren’s sculptures lead one to look up, sit down or walk around.
His corpus was rewarded with Open-Air Museum Award in Japan (1989); and the Medalla al Merito Artistico in Madrid (1991).
