Acquisitions 2023

The 2023 Acquisitions Programme enriched the European Parliament’s contemporary art collection with works from Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia and Finland. The European Parliament’s acquisitions continue to focus on female artists in an effort to balance the representation of women and men in the collection. In line with the collection’s criteria, we selected female artists who work with contemporary media and innovative techniques in photography, video and digital art, installation, sculpture, painting and drawing. The ideas and issues they explore reflect the current interests and concerns of people across the European Union and are the subject of major political and legislative debates in the European Parliament. The artworks mostly deal with themes such as identity, memory and communication, ecology and sustainability, and last but not least democracy and migration.
