Kurt WELTHER


(1957)

Kurt Welther was born in Bad Vöslau in 1957. He undertook an apprenticeship as a textile designer (1973–1975) before studying art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna (1975). After graduating, the artist continued to expand his aesthetic knowledge and curiosity via various study trips in Romania (Cluj-Napoca), Spain (Toledo and Madrid), Italy (Rome, Florence and Venice) and Mexico.

Generally associated with the Viennese School of Fantastic Realism, Welther’s work is concerned with scenes from everyday life, revisited using chromatic, compositional or poetic twists.

Welther has received numerous accolades, including: the Master Class Award (1975); the Golden Flügger Award (1976); Award of the Province of Salzburg at the Austrian Graphics Contest (1976); the Sponsorship Award of the Federal Ministry of Science and Art (1982); and the Sponsorship Award for Fine Arts of Bau Holding (1995).
