Savella MICHAEL

(1972)

Savella Michael was born in Nicosia in 1972. She studied graphic arts at the Frederick Institute of Technology (1990–1991) and painting at the School of Fine Arts at the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki (1992–1997), with a semester abroad at the Belgrade School of Fine Arts in 1996. Two international workshops rounded off her training: one at Pictor’s studios (European workshop with the artist Arezki Aοnn in collaboration with the organisation of the cultural capital of Thessaloniki, 1997) and one at Palestine Red Crescent Museum in collaboration with Doctors of the Cyprus World (1999).
In 2015–2016 she introduced printmaking techniques to her multidimensional work , following her participation in the Print Daily News CY group exhibition as part of Athens Print Fest. She became a member of the Cypriot Printmakers Association in 2016.
Turning towards graphic design and illustration, she adopted the book as an artistic object with the Delicious Buns project, which consists of black and white drawings of varying and contrasting scales. Each drawing tells a tale, with each story ‘turning’ smoothly into the next.
