Vitaliy Patrov was born in Kemerovo, USSR, in 1936. A classically trained sculptor, he graduated from the Art Institute in Kharkov (now part of Ukraine) in 1964 and earned a Master of Arts in Sculpture from the Kharkov Academy of Art in the same year. Later in life, he became an art teacher at the Art Institute in Odessa, USSR (1964–1995); a sculptor for the Artists’ Union of the USSR (1966–1995), of which he also served as president from 1976 to 1986; and Chairperson of the General Grekov Art College, Odessa (1976–1990). He was also made an honorary member of the National Sculpture Society, Russian Unit of Artists.
Patrov passed away in 2012.
