Lyuben GENOV

(1966)

Lyuben Genov was born in Oryahovo in 1966. He graduated from the Jules Pascin Free Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia alongside Dolores Dilova and Nikolai Maystorov, later specialising at the Cité internationale des Arts in Paris (2002). Keen on the transmission of knowledge, he obtained an MA in educational aspects of plastic arts from the Constantine of Preslav University of Shumen. Between 2008 and 2011, he was Head of the Exhibition Department of the Union of Bulgarian Artists, of which he has been a member since 2001 and the president since 2011.
Genov’s abstraction is technically demanding and methodical. Section by section, addition by addition, pigment by pigment, he creates his chromatic landscapes or ensembles that appear organically homogeneous despite their evident fragmentary nature. Dissociation allows for the colour to shine in all its nuance.
Genov currently lives and works in Sofia.
