A painter, printmaker and teacher, born in Wakefield, Yorkshire in 1946, Paul Hempton studied at Goldsmiths’ College School of Art (1964–1968), his teachers including Andrew Forge, and at Royal College of Art (1968–1971), with Carel Weight, and obtained his Master’s degree. He taught at Wolverhampton Polytechnic, Nottingham University and Reading University’s department of fine art. The Arts Council Collection holds his oil on canvas Marker V – Hill, Rod and Stone of 1976–1977, bought from Ikon Gallery, Birmingham, and several provincial collections, including Wakefield Art Gallery, have other works. In 1980, Hempton represented Great Britain at the 11th Biennale de Paris. He lives in Minchinhampton, Gloucestershire.
