Ryszard Grzyb brande la belleza como arma ideológica. Su contacto inicial con la escena artística contemporánea polaca se produjo cuando todavía era estudiante en la Escuela Estatal de Artes de Wrocław (1976-1979) y, más tarde, en la Academia de Bellas Artes de Varsovia (1979-1981). Poco después de graduarse (1982), Grzyb se unió al visionario grupo Gruppa (fundado por Włodzimierz Pawlak), cuya obra también se exhibe en la Colección de Arte Contemporáneo del Parlamento Europeo) con el que colaboró durante una década. Durante el período underground del grupo, Grzyb cofundó la publicación del movimiento Oj dobrze już, y participó activamente en la producción de obras en papel, que eran concebidas como vehículos en defensa del discurso libre que cuestionaban el sistema político. Nosorozec i motyle, z serii 6 obrazow emana de esta fase más salvaje de Grzyb. Las obras de este período presentan un gran grafismo que se equilibra entre el color y el estilo para crear potentes imágenes. En este caso, la composición se estructura en torno a un contraste simbólico dispuesto en capas: la pesadez, aspereza y apagada piel monocroma del rinoceronte se oponen a la ligereza, colores vivos y naturaleza delicada de las mariposas. Sin embargo, esta oposición no es conflictiva; más bien una se abraza a la otra, formando un todo a pesar del contraste.

    Lisbon Treaty

    Value of culture

    2019 European elections

    The European elections in May 2019 see about 51% of EU voters go to the polls, the highest turnout in 20 years. The centre-right European People’s Party and centre-left Social Democrats lose seats but remain the two largest groups in Parliament, while other centrist and liberal parties make gains.
