Åsa Jungnelius capisce il vetro al punto da poter trascendere il materiale e creare opere illusorie, che esistono in sfere la cui esistenza non dovrebbe essere permessa da tale materiale.  Studia alla Konstfack di Stoccolma, presso il dipartimento di vetro e ceramica (1998-2004) e diventa la più importante artista del vetro svedese contemporanea.

Soffiato da Jungnelius, il vetro può assumere l'aspetto, la sensazione e la finitura di oggetti quotidiani o abbracciare la trasparenza che più spesso è associata a questo materiale delicato. Vapen è uno splendido esempio di quest'ultima. Montata su una plafoniera a muro che ricorda le lampade industriali ispirate al design del Bauhaus, la luce viene qui celebrata nella sua forma più pura. Il cilindro semplice, che assume il ruolo di una lampadina tubolare, a malapena esiste, catturando la luce invece di emanarla. Questo pezzo di vetro solido viene privato della funzione prevista per sottolineare in modo dirompente uno stato più (meta)fisico. Nella fisica il termine "luce" si riferisce talvolta alla radiazione elettromagnetica di qualsiasi lunghezza d'onda, visibile o meno. In questa scultura assistiamo a un vero e proprio gioco della (in)visibilità sulla presenza e l'assenza, sulla materialità e il vuoto, dove l'opera vive in una poetica dimensione intermedia.

    Art@Europarl

    2019 European elections

    The European elections in May 2019 see about 51% of EU voters go to the polls, the highest turnout in 20 years. The centre-right European People’s Party and centre-left Social Democrats lose seats but remain the two largest groups in Parliament, while other centrist and liberal parties make gains.

    Brexit

    After the European Parliament ratified the withdrawal agreement on 29 January, the UK leaves the EU about three and a half years after voters supported the move in a referendum.

    As of 1 February, the number of EU member states is 27 and the term of office of UK MEPs ends. The number of MEPs is 705 (previously 751), as some of the UK seats are allocated to existing member states to reflect demographic changes, while others are kept in reserve for when another country joins the EU.
