Emmanuelle Rapin zeigt schöne Beispiele für zeitgenössische Webarbeiten. Ihr Kunststudium nahm sie an der École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris (ENSBA) unter Vladimir Velickovic und Jean-Luc Vilmouth auf (1998–2002). In dieser Zeit erhielt sie ein DAAD-Stipendium, in dessen Rahmen sie die Hochschule der Künste (HDK) in Berlin besuchte (2001). 2002 machte sie in Frankreich ihren Master in Kunst. 2003 wurde sie in das Kunstförder- und -forschungsprogramm „La Seine“ unter Leitung von Tony Brown an der ENSBA aufgenommen, das bis 2005 lief.

Emmanuelle Rapin hat sich dem künstlerischen Einsatz von Techniken verschrieben, die im Allgemeinen mit „Handwerk“ in Verbindung gebracht werden. So wurde sie zur Meisterin verschiedener Techniken vom Weben bis hin zur Stickerei, die in ihren äußerst künstlerischen Kreationen zum Einsatz kommen. Der emotionale Kern dieser Werke lässt sich häufig mit den Materialien ihrer Wahl in Verbindung bringen, wie Heimweh deutlich zeigt. Heimweh – ein Wort und Konzept, das die Künstlerin bei ihrem Umzug nach Berlin wiederentdeckt hat. Um es mit ihren eigenen Worten zu sagen: „Es gibt kein stärkeres Wort in einer anderen Sprache, das dieses Gefühl so perfekt beschreiben kann wie das Wort Heimweh. Ich mag dieses Wort, weil es genau das wachruft, was es ausdrückt. Wenn man eine Fremdsprache lernen will, ist Wiederholung ein Schlüsselwort. Wenn man ein Wort stickt, kann man es auf fast obsessive Weise vollständig in sich aufnehmen.“ Im Umfeld des Europäischen Parlaments, wo die meisten Mitglieder und Bediensteten aus dem Ausland kommen, ist der Begriff emotional besonders stark belegt, da die allermeisten dieses Gefühl wohl schon einmal am eigenen Leib erfahren haben. Die hier angewandte Technik der Stickerei, die mehr Kraft erfordert, betont das nicht zu unterdrückende Gefühl, das das Werk einfängt, wie Emmanuelle Rapin erklärt: „Der rote Faden, der uns leiten sollte, ist verknäult, unentwirrbar und löst das Wort schließlich auf. So wird ,Heimweh‘ zu einem unterdrückten Schrei.“

    2019 European elections

    The European elections in May 2019 see about 51% of EU voters go to the polls, the highest turnout in 20 years. The centre-right European People’s Party and centre-left Social Democrats lose seats but remain the two largest groups in Parliament, while other centrist and liberal parties make gains.

    As of 1 February, the number of EU member states is 27 and the term of office of UK MEPs ends. The number of MEPs is 705 (previously 751), as some of the UK seats are allocated to existing member states to reflect demographic changes, while others are kept in reserve for when another country joins the EU.
